EECA is sponsoring SHAC teams by funding Home Energy Rating Scheme (HERS) assessors to work with each team.
Two sponsored assessments per team will allow changes to the design to be made based on the results.
A Home Energy Rating is an assessment of the energy efficiency performance of a home. This includes:
* How well the building’s design, materials, construction and orientation enables it to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
* The efficiency of a home’s two biggest energy users: the space heating system and the water heating system.
The assessment process will give teams a comparative star rating along with tailored, expert recommendations as to the most cost effective ways in which your home’s energy efficiency – and therefore its rating – can be improved.
The Home Energy Rating tool is one part of sustainability rating tools. Other tools such as the Australian
BASIX and
NABERS aim to provide broader rating of household sustainability, but there are not yet versions for the New Zealand market.
More on the Home Energy Rating Tool can be found on the
EECA website
